Oregon Wines Fly Free FAQs
How must the wine be packaged?
The wine must be safely packaged for transport in a protective shipping container. The TSA asks that containers not be sealed, but remain open for inspection. Shipping boxes are available at many of the region’s wineries as well as shipping providers such as U-Haul and will vary in price. Please note that it is the responsibility of the Alaska Airlines passenger to be sure the wine is properly packaged for checking as luggage. Advise the Alaska Air Customer Service Agent when you check in so the box can be properly labeled with FRAGILE stickers. Items packaged in cardboard boxes are covered in case of loss, but are checked at your own risk for damage. View Alaska Airlines’ Checked Baggage Policies for more details.
How many cases are allowed?
Each Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan member with an outbound ticket will be allowed one (1) case of 6 or 12 bottles to be checked free of charge. Passengers with additional cases will be charged the regular baggage fee.
Can passengers check one case of wine at no charge through to their final destination, even if they are connecting to another airline?
Yes, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan passengers can check their first case of wine at no charge to their final destination, unless the case is retrieved from baggage and rechecked at any stopover.
Does the Oregon Wines Fly Free program apply to all 50 states and international flights?
The first case free program applies to all out-bound domestic destinations. While the wine can be checked through on international flights, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan passengers must meet the customs requirements of the destination country.
At which airports can I check a case of wine for free?
You may check a case of wine for free on Alaska Airlines flights out of four Oregon airports (Eugene, Medford, Portland and Redmond) as well as Walla Walla, WA.
Can passengers fly in to one of the participating airports and fly out of another?
Yes, as long as both the in-bound and out-bound flights are on Alaska Airlines, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan passengers may fly into and out of participating airports.
How do Alaska Airlines passengers redeem their complimentary wine tastings at participating wineries?
At participating wineries that normally charge a tasting fee, passengers can enjoy a free tasting by presenting their current (within 10 days of arrival) in-bound Alaska Airlines boarding pass and proof of membership in the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan. One waived tasting fee is available per boarding pass per winery. Holiday weekends and special events are excluded.
Is the Oregon Wines Fly Free program permanent?
