Sipping an earthy red amid Oregon vineyards bathed in late summer rays is wonderful. It truly is. But with 21 distinct American Viticultural Areas stretched across the state, each boasting unique microcli-mates and subtle seasonal ebbs and flows, there really is no wrong time to visit any Oregon vineyard.

Crisp fall days bring the excitement of crush, when winemakers set about harvesting, sorting, and pressing the grapes that eventually fill your glass. The landscape is ablaze with swaths of golden leaves, and as they begin to disappear from the trees, so do the crowds. Winter is an intimate experience, where views of the frost-covered fields pair well with cozy fireplaces and the personal attention of winemakers always eager to impart a deeper understanding of their craft.
